Biography- Lenferd Ikard Strickland

Lenferd Ikard Strickland was born in Jacksboro, Jacks County, Texas to Andrew Lee Strickland and Effie Jewell Horn on July 8, 1932.

Lenferd married Janice Lee Morrow, he honorably served in the United States Military during the Korean War, he was an Aircraft Engineer, employed by Bell Helicopter and co-owned a used car business with his Father, Lee Andrew Strickland in Dallas, Texas.


Lenferd and Janice lived in Duncanville, Texas and had four children.

The young couple were victims of homicide in Grand Prairie, Texas at Mountain Creek Lake on May 17, 1964.

A witness, Troy Earls of Desoto, Texas claims that he was looking for a picnic area with his family when he discovered their 1957 Chevrolet at the crime scene and notified Police.

The remote location was 1/4 of a mile east off of FM. RD., 1382, which is now Beltline Rd., in Grand Prairie at Mountain Creek Lake.

The high profile case received mostly local attention due to the JFK case that had overshadowed the news coverage of the heinous crimes, then the Oswald and Jack Ruby cases attracted most of the news coverage attention.

The perpetrator was Kenneth Bruce Martin of New Jersey whom had traveled to Texas in February of 1964 where he had rented a motel at the Angelus Tourist Lodge Motel in Grand Prairie, Texas and landed a job at a Bakery in Dallas, Texas not far from Mountain Creek Lake.

J.W. Fritz, the Famous investigator for the JFK, Oswald and Ruby cases was also the detective presiding over the case. In the 1966 Texas Trial, Kenneth Bruce Martin received the Death Penalty, yet several years later, the sentence was reduced.

Lenferd & Janice are both rested at the Wheatland Cemetery located in Duncanville, Texas.
